ELREC Food Pantry

We started the food project back in June 2020, in the midst of the first lockdown. We decided to do this project after enquiries from local ethnic minority communities for food support due to being made furlough, redundant or just finding it tough.

At the beginning we supported between 20-25 families with ethnic specific food boxes each week, which later turned to 60 per week.

Our project differed from standard food banks or projects as it was specific but not limited to BAME families and the food was slightly different. We were able to do this work thanks to Leith decides, Fareshare, BEMIS and donations from local people and businesses.

However, now our funding has come to an end, and the demand is still high. Therefore, we are starting a pantry system in order to continue this necessary work, donations would be much appreciated (Food such as, fruits, vegetables, rice, lentils, halal meat, milk or cash).

Food poverty exists in our city, and we must all work together and meet the needs of all our communities.
