Open Arms, Champions of Health

Open Arms has been developed to support women from ethnic minority and migrant backgrounds, who cannot access mainstream services, due to low income, lack or low level of integration, or isolation and to improve their physical & mental health.

The project would not run without the help of the amazing ELREC team and our funders – the National Lottery Community Fund! Thank you very much for all your support!

Open Arms, Champions of Health

Open Arms aims to help women feel less isolated, improve their physical and mental health, build confidence in communication in English, and empower them to take on leadership roles.

While our activities are open to all women, we primarily focus on those from black and minority ethnic backgrounds, migrants, and refugees, particularly those living on low incomes, with limited or no English language proficiency, and low levels of integration into British society. Our services cater to women living in Edinburgh and the Lothians.

We provide the following services free of charge:

  1. Weekly exercise classes, including body maintenance exercises and head and face yoga.
  1. Weekly arts and crafts workshops.
  1. Doll making and embroidery club
  1. Monthly outings and social events.
  1. Healthy and efficient cooking courses.
  1. Forest art therapy sessions.
  1. Employability advice
  1. One-on-one support.
  1. Daily peer support activities through a WhatsApp group.
