Event Officer – Edinburgh Climate Festival 2025

Freelance Position: Event Officer

£15/hour – 7 hours/day – 1 day/week (Hours might be split in 2 days)/ Fixed-term contract: 23 days – £2,415/ End of January start, running to mid-July 2025/ /Funded by The National Lottery Community Fund’s Climate Action Fund

 

Project Overview:

The Edinburgh Climate Festival continues its legacy as a vibrant, community-led event dedicated to celebrating climate action and fostering environmental awareness. Established in 2016, the Festival operates as a collaborative effort among Edinburgh-based charities. It aims to unite local organisations, communities, and the public for a day of engaging, fun, and family-friendly activities.

In 2024, the Festival drew 4,500 participants. In 2025, our goal is to build on this success and create an even more impactful event on Saturday, 28 June 2025 at the Edinburgh Meadows. Covering diverse environmental topics, the Festival provides a platform for communities of all backgrounds to learn about sustainability, collaborate, have fun, and celebrate community-led climate action.

 

Role Purpose:

As the Event Officer, your primary responsibility will be to contribute to the planning and execution of the 2025 Edinburgh Climate Festival. Working closely with consortium members, you will ensure the seamless coordination of various aspects of the event to create an inclusive and memorable experience.

 

Team:

You will collaborate with the ECF team, community workers, and other partners.

 

Location:

This is a hybrid role, involving work at the Edinburgh & Lothians Regional Equality Council (ELREC) Office (14 Forth St, Edinburgh EH1 3LH), and/or remote work.

 

Role Description:

As the Event Officer, your responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating and overseeing various activities within the event, such as entertainment, workshops, and team-building exercises.
  • Collaborating with different Working Groups/Circles (Comms, Logistics, Council and venue, Volunteer Coordination, etc.) to ensure the successful execution of their respective components.
  • Assisting in volunteer recruitment and overseeing their induction process.
  • Contributing to the promotion of the event through collaboration with the Communications Circle.
  • Providing input to relevant event management documentation.
  • Liaising with the Council, statutory agencies, and contractors as needed.
  • Monitoring deadlines and ensuring the objectives of the event are met.
  • Resolving problems and addressing inquiries before and during the event.
  • Collaborating on-site to facilitate smooth event operations.
  • Undertaking any other duties agreed upon by the Event Coordinator.

 

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Proven experience in event organisation.
  • Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team and with diverse stakeholders.
  • Enthusiasm for event sustainability and community-led initiatives.
