“I started volunteering in March 2017 and have been learning about ELREC’s work and helping with fund raising and writing grant applications. This has been a great opportunity to learn something new, and try to understand complex issues, and there has been lots of training and workshops over the months. The staff and volunteers are very friendly and very committed. I’ve also been looking at options for future outdoor and conservation activities. I organised a walk round the New Town and Water of Leith as part of the Communities for Conservation and Roots to Routes projects, to raise awareness of heritage and international historical connections on the doorstep and to signpost Edinburgh’s greenspaces and walking routes. I’m planning another walk in North Edinburgh to the coast soon. It’s been really good to try new things, understand different points of view, and remember old skills that had grown rusty.” Michael Pearce
