Edinburgh and Lothians Regional Equality Council is working in partnership with the City of Edinburgh Council, Community Learning and Development Service, to conduct a survey about equality activities that take place at local community centres.

As a public authority, the City of Edinburgh Council is required by the Equality Act 2010 to have due regard to the following in all its functions:

  • Eliminate discrimination, harassment and victimisation
  • Advance equality of opportunity
  • Foster good relations

Whether a community centre is directly managed or partially funded by City of Edinburgh Council, the centre has a responsibility to meet the above legal requirements.  Community centres have a special role in engaging and being accessible to different sections of the community.

The questionnaire is divided into subsections: reason(s) why you do not use a community centre, your experience of the centre you have used and information about yourself.

A separate questionnaire is also being distributed to community centres to find out the range of activities they have in their centre that promote diversity and equality.

If you require assistance with the completion of the questionnaire, please do not hesitate to contact us.  We can arrange one of our volunteers to visit you and help you with the form.

We would be grateful if you could return the completed questionnaire to us by Friday 24 February 2012.

Please return the form to Edinburgh and Lothians Regional Equality Council, 14 Forth Street, Edinburgh EH1 3LH.  For more information, you can contact us on 0131 556 0441 or admin@elrec.org.uk
